Very well may be, and I am not talking about the quality, but convenience! 

What is so convenient is that you always have your phone with you; it is always on, always available to upload your media at a click of a button to photo sharing sites like Flickr.  The fact is, that these phones are approaching a good-enough picture quality for everyday use, especially for web sharing, and some new phones are much more so with 5, 8 and even 12 mega pixel built in cameras.  An attached graph clearly shows the upset that iPhone did on the rest of the serious competition, by pulling ahead yesterday according to Flickr stats.  It was side by side with Canon Rebel XTi for upload popularity.  Are we starting to see a trend here?  Is mobility really a way of the future?  Well yes and no.  We all want to have all the tools available in our hands at the push of the button, but they have their place and time.  Serious tools and gadgets will never go away.
