Canon today issued a recall of its EOS-1D and 1Ds Mark III flagship DSLR cameras to remove a ring-shaped drop that was caused by oil lubricant that leaked out of some models’ mirror box. The lubricant is used to keep the camera’s moving parts working, but droplets of excess oil may have landed on the surface of the low pass filter, which is located in front of the cameras’ CMOS sensor, affecting image quality.
This will be fixed free of charge by Canon.
